Family Therapy
Families often seek therapy when they find themselves experiencing increased conflict and misunderstandings. I work with parents and their adult children or adult siblings to resolve conflict and build stronger relationships. In addition to working with parent-child and sibling relationships, I have experience working with a variety of family relationships including in-laws and blended families.
what to expect
First, a complimentary 15-minute phone call is scheduled to hear more about your interest in therapy, who will be attending, and answer any questions you might have. If we agree to move forward, then a client portal is created and paperwork is completed online for each family member. Clients have the option to meet in-person, online, or a combination of the two. During the first session, family history will be gathered and goals will be established. Depending on the need for therapy and who will be involved, the following sessions may include a variety of different groupings (i.e. parent-child, siblings, whole family). With each person involved in sessions, I gather important background information to gain a deeper understanding of each individual. This helps me build rapport with each person and helps set the foundation for family therapy sessions.
my approach
As the family therapist, I work for the family, not for one individual within the family. I work with the family to create goals, develop effective communication strategies, and explore ways to strengthen relationships. I offer a warm and welcoming space where clients can feel heard and validated and express their concerns freely. In my work with families, I integrate techniques from narrative therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness therapy modalities. My approach is strength-based and collaborative, which assists clients in feeling empowered and prepared to navigate future challenges.
